Liposuction recovery varies from person to person. If they only had liposuction done on a small area, their recovery time will be shorter than a patient who had liposuction done on a large or even multiple areas. Generally, it will take about 5-7 days before you can start moving around and going back to work. After 1-2 weeks, you can resume your normal life and after a couple of months you can feel complete liposuction recovery.
Straight after surgery, you may experience some pain, swelling, numbness or bleeding. Your plastic surgeon in Mexico will prescribe pain medication to help with this and antibiotics to reduce infection.
If you had general anaesthetic, you will feel a bit groggy and nauseous. You may need to stay in the hospital overnight so the doctors can make sure that no complications arise from the anaesthetic.
For the first few days after your liposuction, you will experience fluid drainage from the small incisions that were made during the surgery. The surgeon may have inserted drainage tubes into these incisions to prevent fluid build up but he will remove them at your first check up.
In order to control swelling and help your body adjust to its new shape, you will have to wear a compression garment for the first couple of weeks of liposuction recovery. This length of time may vary depending on the liposuction technique that was used.
You can have your first shower 2 days after surgery but will need to rub moisturiser into the treated areas to counteract the skin drying effects of liposuction. This is a good time to start massaging the area as well so that dimpling and wrinkling of the skin can be minimised. During your liposuction recovery, you will need to deeply massage the affected areas 3 times a day for about 6 weeks.
Walking and moving around during your liposuction recovery is important because it helps to increase your circulation and reduce the chances of blood clots. It might also be a good idea to elevate the treated areas by placing pillows underneath them.
While your body is healing, strenuous activity or anything that increases your blood pressure should be avoided. You have just had surgery so be sure to take your liposuction recovery easy.
You will be able to see the results of your liposuction once the swelling goes down 4-6 weeks after your surgery. The final results will be apparent within a couple of months. This is when you can start shopping for new clothes for your new body! By eating well and exercising regularly, you should be able to maintain your slimmer figure.
While you are in Mexico, your plastic surgeon will schedule follow up visits to make sure your liposuction recovery is going well. Let him know if you have any unusual symptoms or if you are experiencing significant adverse side effects. Keep him up to date so he can treat anything that comes up before it gets serious. By following his detailed post-operative instructions, you should have a smooth liposuction recovery with minimum discomfort.
