Tummy Tuck Procedures

There are a number of abdominoplasty or tummy tuck procedures available to patients. Depending on the patient’s body size and shape, one of these tummy tuck procedures will be deemed the most appropriate. The expectations of the patient will also be taken into account when the plastic surgeon in Mexico is trying to work out the best way to approach each individual tummy tuck surgery. Some people will require an extensive full tummy tuck (complete abdominoplasty) while others will only require a partial tummy tuck (mini abdominoplasty). For patients who require something different, the following types of tummy tuck procedures are available: extended abdominoplasty, high lateral tension abdominoplasty, circumferential abdominoplasty. There are a number of tummy tuck risks and side effects that you need to be aware of prior to your surgery so make sure to discuss them with your surgeon.
SUMMARY OF ABDOMINOPLASTY OR TUMMY TUCK PROCEDURES AVAILABLE
Full Tummy Tuck (Complete Abdominoplasty)
A full tummy tuck procedure can take anywhere between 1-5 hours. Firstly, an incision from one hip to the other is made. Secondly, another incision around the bellybutton is made and this is removed for the time being. The outer skin layer is removed from the abdominal wall and the abdominal muscles are tightened with stitches. Excess skin and fat are cut away thus tightening the remaining skin, and the navel is stitched into its new place. Liposuction may also be carried out depending on the amount of fat available.
Partial Tummy Tuck (Mini Abdominoplasty)
A partial tummy tuck procedure takes 1-2 hours and involves a much smaller incision. A lesser amount of fat and skin are removed from the lower abdomen and the skin from the upper abdomen is pulled downwards before being stitched into place. A mini abdominoplasty may or may not involve tightening of the abdominal wall. The bellybutton is separated and then stitched into its new location. Liposuction is usually employed to smooth out the stomach area, especially around where the incision was made.
Extended Abdominoplasty
The difference between a complete abdominoplasty and an extended abdominoplasty is that an extended abdominoplasty involves a lateral thigh lift as well. An extended tummy tuck procedure improves on the appearance of the waist and smooths the contours of the upper thigh.
High Lateral Tension Abdominoplasty
High lateral tension abdominoplasty takes over four hours to perform because it is a relatively dramatic tummy tuck procedure. Patients who undergo a high lateral tension tummy tuck will have a significantly defined waistline and a much flatter abdomen. The difference between this procedure and a conventional abdominoplasty is that this procedure tightens muscles in a horizontal line as well as a vertical line.

Circumferential Abdominoplasty

A circumferential abdominoplasty (also known as belt lipectomy or body lift) is the combination of an extended tummy tuck procedure and a buttock lift. It is generally recommended for patients who have lost a large amount of weight. The final scar runs in a circumference all around the body, thus the name.
